55 LIVE - CELEBRATING 55 YEARS OF LIVE MUSIC AT THE 'MOON

Since the early ‘60s The Half Moon has been regarded as one of London’s most respected live music venues, hosting incredible acts every night of the week. Shows include U2’s first sellout UK concert, kd lang’s first UK appearance and Kate Bush’s first public show.

Throughout the years The Half Moon has also been synonymous with a certain local band, The Rolling Stones, whose most recent visit was a private event held in 2000. Individual members have also appeared here in various side-projects, and have used the venue for rehearsal space. Other legendary acts include The Who, Van Morrison, John Martyn, Steve Marriott, Elvis Costello, Bo Diddley, along with comedians Billy Connolly, Harry Hill and Stewart Lee. More recently we have hosted artists such as London Grammar, Nick Cave, Kasabian, Ed Sheeran, and comedians James Acaster, Reginald D Hunter, Aisling Bee and Seann Walsh.

This year we celebrate 55 years as a live music venue by raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust through our #55Live legends series; with events from artists such as Albert Lee, The Animals, Ian MacNabb, Jah Wobble, The Pretty Things, Peggy Seeger, Geno Washington, Dr Feelgood, Ralph McTell and Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets – a residency with Pink Floyd’s famous drummer.

These events are being documented by our resident artist, Stella Tooth - “Artist residencies allow individuals to explore their practice within another community. As a trained portrait artist, fascinated by performers, I will be seeking to capture the creative energy of many of the Half Moon’s best loved acts.” Look out for our exhibitions of Stella’s work, which is also available to purchase at the venue throughout the year.

Our friends at Fourpure have also brewed us a bespoke craft ‘55 Live’ lager to commemorate the anniversary.

We continue to host many special events throughout the year with legends from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s so keep an eye on our listings as we have some very exciting acts coming your way!

#55LIVE - 20,000 shows since 1963!
